The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. The Test is conducted in Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science.

The Women’s studies program at TISS focuses on developing the skills and theoretical understandings amongst students on the issues of gender, patriarchy and power etc and helps them in integrating these skills to sharpen their field intervention. Some of these courses are also extended to the students across other programs.

An outcome of such inter-disciplinary teaching is that nearly 10 Students, 3 from the M. A in Women’s Studies program and 8 students from the Women centered Social work who had opted to appear for their NET – National Eligibility Test Examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship in Women’s Studies have qualified for their JRF and lectureship.
